Our caregivers are trained to provide the best care and support possible. They are PCA’s (Personal Care Attendants) and CNA’s (Certified Nurses’ Aides) who are dependable, compassionate people that have been thoroughly screened, carefully selected and rigorously training. We check references, criminal backgrounds and driving records, we utilize drug screens, and we assess for infectious diseases and physical abilities or limitations. We also provide specialized training to manage Alzheimer’s disease, Dementia and many other health conditions. All of this is done so you can be sure that your loved one is receiving the care that they want and deserve.
Our in home caregivers must successfully complete our nurse directed training program before being hired. We provide each caregiver with all the education, skills and supervision necessary to properly care for our clients.
Each prospective employee must complete and pass computerized exams for each module with a score of 80% or greater. Some of the topics include:
- Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care
- Infection Control and Safety
- Medication and Pain management
- Independent living
- Hospice and Palliative Care
- Care for Seniors With Diabetes
After completing these online studies, the prospective caregiver must pass a Pennsylvania Department of Welfare competency and certificate exam.
Once they have completed the classroom training, we provide a day of hands-on training under the supervision of our nurse instructor. Each caregiver must perform these care-giving skills in front of the instructor before they are hired. There are numerous care-giving skills, but a few of the topics are listed below:
- Protecting a Client’s Dignity
- Personal Hygiene
- Body Mechanics
- Bathing, Dressing, Repositioning
Skills training continues with our Specialized focus on routine and chronic health conditions. This training includes:
- Signs and Symptoms
- Vital Signs
- Glucose Testing
- Range of motion
- Oxygen and Respiratory treatments
- Skin protection
Throughout the year, many in home healthcare services are provided to keep our caregivers current with necessary topics. Our caregivers have constant access to nursing staff for assistance or direction with a difficult areas of care.
